The Illustrated Scenes of some Food and Beverage during the Greek and Roman eras

Abstract

There is no doubt that food played a major role for humans throughout ancient times, as it was associated with all aspects of religious, economic, cultural and social life.
Also food had important role in daily life and funeral life. Where the food associated with the funeral rituals represented in the funeral meal provided to the deceased.
Food represented in agricultural crops, in addition to the animals that were eaten and their products, also drinks, which had an important role on the Greek and Roman table, which included wines, milk and various juices.
The great diversity appeared in the types of Greek and Roman dishes, and this diversity led to the emergence of diversity in the daily Greek and Roman meals, in addition to the multiplicity of types of drinks, which included wine, beer, dairy, and juices.
None of us ignores that we knew the history, civilizations and development of human through the inscriptions, drawings and scenes that were found on our ancient monuments, and then those scenes developed with the historical development in all aspects of religious, social, economic and cultural life.
Many depicted scenes related to food and drink, were taken as important sources when talking about food and drink, these scenes were depicted on the walls of tombs and temples, as well as on tombstones in the form of funeral tables and on coffins, also on various types of utensils and minor arts.
