The relations between Arab states of the Gulf region and Hungary date back to 1965, when Hungary established diplomatic relations with Kuwait. The enhancing and consolidating these relations came after the important mutual visits, such as the visits of Gyula Kállai, Hungarian Prime Minister, to Kuwait in 1966, Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait, to Budapest in 1981, and Pál Losonczi, Chairman of the Presidential Council, to Kuwait in 1982. In this article we try to portray the diplomatic, commercial and economic relations between the Arab states bordering the Gulf and Hungary. The authors searched Hungarian archive records of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the documents of the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party and the Hungarian press including Népszabadság, Népszava, Magyar Hírlap < /em>, Magyarország, Világgazdaság, Vas Népe, in addition to some Arabic references.
